Cartier celebrates the return of the Panthère watch with a short film directed by Sofia Coppola.
Cartier has given carte blanche to Sofia Coppola to direct the film for the Panthère de Cartier collection.
Just after after being awarded in Cannes for her last movie, “The Beguiled,” Sofia uses her signature approach to storytelling and filmmaking to create the new commercial of the Panthère de Cartier. The iconic watch born in 1983 and discontinued in 2004, is being relaunched this June with a full Panthère collection including 11 new styles, two sizes, 22mm for the small version, and 27mm for the bigger one. The jewelry watch comes in different metals and finishes.
In order to create the best commercial for the 80’s watch, Sofia Coppola tried to identify the woman who will be wearing this watch, according to her, “The Panthère woman is elegant, sophisticated, chic and glamourous, still sexy and fun. I think she is a European woman who travels, so we set the story in that way.”
Known for her distinct dreamlike atmosphere, Coppola interprets the Cartier Panthère woman strolling and driving around Los Angeles, flirting by the pool, or having in a night club with her Panthère on the wrist.
She has chosen the Australian actress Courtney Eaton, previously seen in “Mad Max: Fury Road” to be the face of this commercial. A very subtile choice, which perfectly fits with the Cartier Essence of style and French elegance.
